Previous exhibitions have been facilitated at Ayers House, Nth Tce , Tanunda Soldiers Memorial Hall, Mount Gambier RSL Museum, Port Pirie Military Museum, Waikerie RSL Museum and the War Widow Association Inc. All exhibitions are free admission.
This program is designed to capture and preserve the history and heritage of individual achievements and sacrifice of veterans, war widows and partners celebrating and showcasing their contribution and experiences to create awareness and acknowledgment of their contribution towards a better global community.
The RSL – A Time To Celebrate 2023 is seeking to meet and capture oral history and photographic images of the personal experiences and viewpoints of veterans and war widows and to create awareness and celebrate their achievements and sacrifices for country.
A very personal insight into the history and heritage of SA previously in partnership with The Tanunda RSL Sub Branch and now in partnership with the Waikerie RSL Sub Branch and The EMU Tree / Christian Teusner.
Public exhibitions featuring images and documents submitted by participants has travel across SA regionally late 2021 to celebrate and create awareness and will also be published online as a global resource downloadable for all to explore and archive for generations to come. Work is ongoing with editing and publishing the oral histories and future scheduling of interviews will begin again shortly.
Time is not on our side so now is the moment to organise the preservation of individuals experiences.

The RSL – A Time To Celebrate is a statewide oral history program which will include a showcase 4 day SALA exhibition in August / September in the State Dining Room at the amazing Ayers House Museum, North Tce,SA 5000.
The exhibition featuring over 350 photographs will take place over two weekends on Saturday 29th / Sunday 30th August and Saturday 5th / Sunday 6th September, 10am to 3pm each day. Entry to the exhibition is free.
Over the past 6 months the program has visited RSL branches and members at home across the state to interview and capture the life stories of members.
The SALA exhibition will include photographs of participants in service and relevant images linked to their stories. The exhibition will also contain audio listening stations for visitors to explore the experiences and events captured. Over 3500 minutes of audio has been recorded to produce these podcasts to preserve and share the memories of these brave and loyal individuals who served to protect Australia and it’s future.
The program has been facilitated by Christian Teusner from The EMU Tree, Education and Music In Unison, (www.theemutree.com). Christian has a passion for people and documenting and preserving their stories. Christians parents Roger and Myrene Teusner have published many books focusing on the history of the Barossa Valley and Roger was a founding member of The Barossa Historical Trust 1963.
Spearheading this program and major partner is the Tanunda RSL Sub Branch who immediately recognised the importance of the program and the contribution this would have to positive experiences and well being for RSL members, their families and communities and creating a continuing resource of education, awareness and honouring the invaluable contribution and sacrifice of its members.
This program has been fully funded though the Federal Veterans and Community Grant stream.
